Eugen Dediu is a graduate of UNATC Bucharest, Film and TV Directing Department (Bachelor and Master) and currently a PhD student at the Film Faculty of the same university. He has been working in the film industry since 2015, having directed several short films in both student and independent contexts. His documentary The Hunger Circus (2017) has been selected and screened in several film festivals such as Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival (The Czech Republic), Semaine du cinema (Paris, France), 32. Film Festival Montenegro, Docuart Fest (Bucharest), and his most relevant fiction films – Mezzo Piano! (2018), Mezzo Forte! (2019) and Intermission for Autonomous Vacuum and the End of the World (2021) – have had appearances in international festivals such as Chelsea International Film Festival (New York), Pula Film Festival (Croatia), Romanian Film Festival Chicago, Working Title Film Festival (Italy).
In 2019 he was one of the five winners of the EUandME competition organised by the European Commission, which involved the production of a short film – New World Symphony – which was screened at Stockholm International Film Festival and Les Films de Cannes a Bucharest and is available online. In 2020 and 2021 he participated in the Sarajevo International Film Festival as part of the Sarajevo Talents programme, and in TIFF (Transilvania International Film Festival 2021) in The Pitch Stop section.
In addition to his own directed short film projects, he has experience in the cinema industry as an assistant director on over 15 short films (student, independent and CNC funded), 4 feature films and a miniseries as a director and post production coordinator.
